For years, the Great Pacific Garbage Patch was seen as an environmental disaster, millions of tons of plastic floating in the ocean, harming marine life. But in 2023, scientists discovered that some species had adapted to live there. Crabs, anemones, and even small fish were using the floating plastic as a new kind of habitat.
My Take: This is one of those discoveries that is both amazing and kind of sad. Nature is so resilient that it is turning our garbage into a home. But maybe instead of forcing animals to adapt to trash, we should focus on cleaning it up.
